The New York City Department of Records and Information Services (DORIS) has announced significant upgrades to its interactive map that highlights the stories behind nearly 2,500 co-named
streets, intersections, parks, and playgrounds across the city.
Originally launched in November 2024, the map offers online access to biographical details about the individuals and organizations honored through co-naming.
Recent improvements include a more user-friendly URL — https://streetnamesmap-nyc.hub.arcgis.com— as well as enhanced search capabilities to help users find information more easily.
DORIS will continue to expand the database, with additional biographies added on a quarterly basis. The next update is scheduled for June 2025. Photo by Gryffindor, Wikimedia commons.
